The fashion world is abuzz with the news of Kristopher Brock's latest collaboration, this time with V. Chapman, a contemporary occasionwear brand. Brock, known for his frilly and floral designs, has been on a creative roll since putting his eponymous line on hold in 2021. His latest project, however, is a return to his roots, a collaboration with V. Chapman that brings together two like-minded designers with a shared love of vintage romance and party dresses.
What makes this collaboration particularly fascinating is the dynamic between Brock and V. Chapman's founder, Victoria Salisbury. Salisbury, a former senior designer at Chan Luu, was introduced to Brock through his now-wife, Kaitlynn Carter of "The Hills" fame. Brock, known for his unique aesthetic and direction, was an obvious choice for Salisbury, who has always admired his work. The two designers share a love of vintage romance and party dresses, making them a perfect match for this collaboration.
The collection, named "Amapola Amor" (Spanish for poppy love), is a celebration of Brock's love for the color red and Salisbury's love of florals. The leitmotif of red poppies is reflected in the collection's prints, which decorate a semi-sheer collarless evening jacket, ideal for day-to-night wear. The collection also includes wool coats and knitwear, such as enveloping turtlenecks and cardigans with removable accordion-pleated hems, adding a sophisticated touch to everyday wear.
One of the standout looks in the collection is a plunging tiered midi dress in a chintzy linen organza, Salisbury's favorite. Brock's contribution to the collection is a ruffled peplum top, styled in the look book over a matching peasant skirt in white cotton voile, tied together with black grosgrain bows, a signature of Brock Collection. The collection also includes a lace Empire-waist gown with a portrait neck, reminiscent of the one Gwyneth Paltrow wears as Emma in the 1996 film adaptation of Jane Austen's novel of the same name.
The "Amapola Amor" collection ranges from $125 to $1,225 and will launch online at vchapmanstudio.com on August 5. Select pieces are available now at Anthropologie. This collaboration is a testament to the power of creative partnerships and the ability of designers to bring their unique visions to life, offering something new and exciting to the fashion world.
